It becomes so frustrating when you plug a USB drive or an External Hard Disk then suddenly windows prompts you it cant access you hard disk and it needs to be formatted .
Its not fun at all when you think of your data such videos , documents , pictures etc are about to be gone forever ..
A very common error when trying to access the drive is the message asking you to format the disk .
and when you try to check the Properties of the file it shows both free and used spaces are 0 bytes .
Do not Format
and Do not Panic
Such errors often rise due to either of the following reasons :
-- Unsafe Removal of a Drive
-- Suddenly Power Lost when the disk was in Use .
Method :
U can Use the ChkDisk utility to restore your drive to an early state without having to use any software
Do the Following :
-- Plug the Drive then make a note of the drive letter
-- Run Command Prompt as an Administrator
Click Start -> Type CMD on the search box , right click cmd and select run as administrator
-- On Commad Prompt window type the following
chkdsk X: /f
Note : X is reffered as an example of the drive letter . replace it with your drive letter
-- Wait for windows to detect and fix errors on your drive
Close the CMD window and check your drive :
These often works with USB drives and Hard Disk drives that have gone on such errors
hey i did it and the chkdsk fixed errors but when i plugged my drive on another computer it didnt showed up on the list of drives but i can see it on the disk management tool
ReplyDeleteIf the disk is listed on disk management . Try right click on the Disk and assign it another drive letter for the window to recognize the disk
