To partition a hard drive in
Windows means to divide the hard drive into parts and make those parts
available to the operating
system. Partitioning a drive is very useful for maintaing and keeping your data
safe and secure . It also enhance easy back up and can increase you PC
perfomance .
Disk Management windows Utility
Windows
Vista, Windows Server 2008,Windows 7 and Windows 8 has a built in Disk Management tool that has the ability to shrink volume, extend
volume, create volume, delete volume, format volume and so on. If you want to
extend system partition, there must be some unallocated space behind the system
partition.
Steps by Step Partitioning

Click Start Button and right click on my computer then select
Manage
·
On Device Manager
Go on to Storage then Open Disk Management
·
Here you will be able to see the view of all the drives
current present on your computer . Among this drives select one you want to
partition and right click on it then select
Shrink Volume
·
Let the tool calculate the maximum amount of shrinkage
volume available and a new window will open allowing you to specify the amount
of volume you want to shrink .
Note : The space you enter
must be between the limited amount of space displayed

After entering the values click on shrink and wait for it to be shrunk . Complete depends on the
amount of volume shrunk . So let the wizard finish the magic and after the
volume is shrunk you will able to see the new Unllocated space just beside the
one you shrunk with values you defined .
Creating a New Volume

Right click the unllocated space and select new
simple volume
·
A window will open . Fill the required values usual as like
those you entered on shrinking the volume

The new drive to be created must be assigned a letter . So
assign any letter from the list .

A new window will appear which is a format window .. Note
that the file selected is in NTFS file format . Name you volume on the volume
label box and make shure the Perfome a quick format is ticked . Then click Next
.
The wizard will formart your
new created drive and assign a letter on it .
Congratulation you have
successfully created a new partition .. !!
Note : Only administrator or Power
User accounts can perfome the partition process . This does not works on Window 7 Home / Starter if the
number of partitions exceeds 4 .
Alternative
you can still use other third party tools to create new partitions to your
desired size with more advanced options . Best free tools I could suggest you can use .
