Either you have seen this or come across this error but its kinda well known as one of the dreaded error on a computer .. This error usual comes from the bootsector which is the area on the hard drive that contains information used to load up the operating system .
Possible reasons that causes BOOTMGR error
• File system error due to corrupted system files
• BIOS mis configurations, like boot priority of the hard drives current connected.
• Operating system Upgrade issue on an outdated BIOS version can be cause mis configuration of bootmgr files .
• Virus Attack
• Unplugged or loose cables on harddrives may cause this myth error to appear
Ways To Fix :
When The BOOTMGR error arises means you cant start the PC normal . You can try one of the below solution to try and fix the issue .Solution 1 : Check If its a Hardware Issue
Turn Off your computer and try check cables and controllers intarfacing your drives . Make sure they are all connected and working properly and replace any if you suspect a fault then restartSolution 2 : Check BIOS settings
If you have made any changes or installed a new hardware then try check and configure BIOS settings . If you are trying to boot from an external drive then change boot priority options . and if maybe before the error appeared you kinda made changes on BIOS options try revert back to default settings and reboot your computer .Solution 3 : Run a Startup repair
In this case if the error is arrised due to misconfiguration or corrupt system files then this might help fix and replace any missing or system files . You might need a Windows bootable CD or Bootable USB device to run start Up repair .Quick guide on how to run start Up repair:
• Insert a Windows bootable CD and allow it to boot from the CD .
• After it boots Up Follow the onscreen Instruction and hit Next.
• Then Click on Repair your Computer.
• The Wizard will try and find your OS installation directory. Click Next when it finishes .
• Then on System Recovery Options select Startup Repair
• The startup repair will fix any missing files and configuration and then prompts you to reboot your PC . If it all goes right the PC wlll then start normal without the BOOTMSG error message
Solution 4 : Write a new Partition Bootsector
This is easy and should be done within a system recovery options . Accessing System Recovery Options is covered in the above steps by using a windows CD or Bootable USB device . If you dont have a windows CD then Press F8 when powering up the PC .. On windows 7 this key brings Advanced Boot Options then select Repair Your Computer if its available among the listed options. This option is not available on all OS version of windows 7 .Then when you get into System Recovery Option select Commnad Prompt from the listed options and type the command belowe
bootrec /fixboot
and Press EnterOr type this
Bootrec /RebuildBcd
and Press Enter If asked to add installation to boot list ? type Y or Yes then Press Enter
You should see the result message as below at the end
The operation completed successfully.
The command will write a new partition bootsec and any corruption will be corrected . Then reboot
Solution 5 : Reinstall The Operating System
If any of the above method has failed then its time to try install a fresh copy of windows .. Sometimes driver issues and virus attack might cause this error . Perfome a clean install of OS and check if the problem still exists .If all of the above doesn't solve the problem then you might be facing a hardware issue . try replacing the hard drive or may be take it to a service center for more advanced troubleshooting .
