Disk Management windows Utility

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008,Windows 7 and Windows 8 has a built in Disk Management tool that has the ability to shrink volume, extend volume, create volume, delete volume, format volume and so on. If you want to extend system partition, there must be some unallocated space behind the system partition.

Steps by Step Partitioning

·         Click Start Button and right click on my computer then select Manage

·         On Device Manager Go on to Storage then Open Disk Management

·         Here you will be able to see the view of all the drives current present on your computer . Among this drives select one you want to partition and right click on it then select Shrink Volume

·         Let the tool calculate the maximum amount of shrinkage volume available and a new window will open allowing you to specify the amount of volume you want to shrink .

Note : The space you enter must be between the limited amount of space displayed

·                                 After entering the values click on shrink and wait for it to be shrunk . Complete depends on the amount of volume shrunk . So let the wizard finish the magic and after the volume is shrunk you will able to see the new Unllocated space just beside the one you shrunk with values you defined .

Creating a New Volume

·                                 Right click the unllocated space and select new simple volume

·                                 A window will open . Fill the required values usual as like those you entered on shrinking the volume

·                                 The new drive to be created must be assigned a letter . So assign any letter from the list .

·                                 A new window will appear which is a format window .. Note that the file selected is in NTFS file format . Name you volume on the volume label box and make shure the Perfome a quick format is ticked . Then click Next .

The wizard will formart your new created drive and assign a letter on it .
Congratulation you have successfully created a new partition .. !!

Note : Only administrator or Power User accounts can perfome the partition process . This does not works on Window 7 Home / Starter if the number of partitions exceeds 4 .

Alternative you can still use other third party tools to create new partitions to your desired size with more advanced options . Best free tools I could suggest you can use .
